Make Your Own Deodorant

I made my own deodorant several months ago and, as far as I can tell, it works great. At least no one has complained. 😉  Our daughter-in-law found the below recipe, which is really easy to make and lasts a long time.

1/4 c. baking soda
1/4 c. arrowroot powder
4 TBS. coconut oil
10 drops essential oil (scent you like)
Combine all ingredients in a jar or plastic container with a lid.

Virgin coconut oil melts at approximately 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Above that temperature, the oil solidifies – the colder, the harder. As a result, the consistency of the deodorant varies with the seasons and household temperatures, but the efficacy is still the same.

FYI, I did not add an essential oil to my recipe, so if you prefer scentless deodorant, you’ll appreciate the mild coconut smell. Also, in case you hadn’t guessed, I use my fingers to apply. A little bit goes a long ways. This concoction is not only easy to make but inexpensive and chemical-free. What more could you ask?!
