You Asked About Astaxanthin

Not really. Two blogs ago, I wrote that astaxanthin is good for eyes and promised to write more about how this carotenoid enhances health.

Natural has a collection of articles regarding this antioxidant. Below is a summary of the findings from a variety of studies:

  • Virtually eliminates arthritis pain for many people
  • Eases or eliminates chronic back pain
  • Accelerates muscle healing for strength trainers, weekend warriors, and people who get sore easily
  • Functions as an internal sunscreen to enhance tolerance of sun exposure
  • Offers powerful protection for eyes and prevents macular degeneration
  • Prevents heart disease due to oxidative damage
  • Boosts immune system function
  • Reduces pain from carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive motion injuries
  • Protects the nervous system from degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Multiplies the effects of vitamin E and vitamin C
  • Enhances athletic performance: both strength and endurance
  • Lowers LDL cholesterol

As Dr. Mercola says, this antioxidant is in a league of its own. “Astaxanthin is leaps and bounds more powerful than beta-carotene, alpha-tocopherol, lycopene and lutein, other members of its chemical family. It exhibits VERY STRONG free radical scavenging activity and protects your cells, organs and body tissues from oxidative damage.”

If you’re in the market for a super-supplement, this may be the one! Be sure to research the above links and more.

Wishing you super-health, Becky
